PM: Guided City Tour visiting the Main Square, known in Inca times as Huacaypata or “The Warriors Square”, this was the scene for many key events in Cusco’s history. The Cathedral, built between 1560 and 1664 with large stones of red granite taken from the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the Cathedral is one of the most imposing structures in the city. It also houses one of the most important collections of gold and silver work of the colonial period, elaborately engraved wooden altars and a beautiful collection of oil on canvas paintings from the Escuela Cusqueña. Koricancha and the Santo Domingo Convent. The Convent was built on the spectacular Koricancha (site of gold), the most important temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun and whose walls were plated with sheets of gold. As well as, the convent was built above a foundation of smoothened stone structures, the most finely crafted in Cusco, taken from the Inca Sanctuary. Then, we will continue to the nearby ruins: Kenko, where you will see its underground galleries and its semicircular amphitheater. Tambomachay complex of walls connected by stairways, having water springs which fed a well via channels in which apparently the Inca bathed, for it is believed that he also worshipped water. Puca Pucara; the red fortress that is located on a hill, possibly to defend Tambomachay and Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an imposing example of Inca military architecture, this fortress was built using large slabs of granite to safeguard the city from Antis attacks or invading forces from the east.

It is important for your trip to Peru to be aware of the weather before coming. Peru is situated in the Southern Hemisphere and hence the summer months are November to April, and winter is May to October. However, due to Peru’s proximity to the Equator, “winter” in the city of Cusco means blue skies with little rain, warm days up to about 78ºF (depending on the altitude), and cold nights (possibly down to freezing).

The city of Cusco, at 3,400 meters above sea level (11,200 ft) experiences a unique climate with only two seasons, a wet season (summer) and a dry season (winter). During the dry season (cooler winter months) the evening and early morning temperature will drop below 0° Celsius (32°F). During the rainy season (warmer summer months) there will be sunny days that reach about 26° Celsius (78°F). While traveling in Cusco it is important to bring warm cloths, as most of the year will be chilly at nights.

The wet season (Summer) months: November to April.

The city of Cusco will experience frequent showers with sunny spells in between.

Temperature range: 10.3° Celsius (50.54°F) to 26° Celsius (78°F).

The dry season (Winter)months: May to October.

The city of Cusco will experience a dry winter, where no rain will fall, but the coolness of the early mornings and evenings intensifies, particularly during the months of June, July and August.

Temperature range: 0° Celsius (32°F) to 26° Celsius (78°F).
